What is Sorenson VRI?

Sorenson Video Remote Interpreting (VRI)™--a convenient, professional interpreting service provided by Sorenson Communications--enables deaf and hearing individuals who are in the same location to easily conduct conversations using a remote video interpreter, videophone technology, and a high-speed Internet connection. Sorenson VRI assists companies and organizations to comply with the current Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) regulations.

 Who is Sorenson VRI for?

Sorenson VRI benefits both deaf and hearing individuals who need to converse with each other. Sorenson VRI can take the place of scheduling a local interpreter to come on-site to a business location. Whether it is a simple conversation between two individuals or a lengthy conference call with many details to work through, a Sorenson VRI interpreter is invaluable when it comes to communicating your meaning clearly and quickly.

Sorenson VRI is ideal for any business or organization looking to provide an overall better experience for its deaf employees. Customers include:
  • Corporations
  • Financial institutions
  • Government organizations
  • Schools
  • Rehabilitations centers
At this time, Sorenson VRI does not provide interpreting services for medical appointments.

 How does Sorenson VRI work?

To use video remote interpreting for your meeting, simply schedule an appointment with Sorenson VRI. When it is time for the call, the remote interpreter--located at one of the Sorenson VRI interpreting centers--will appear on your TV screen at the scheduled appointment time. The interpreter, who uses a videoconferencing device and a TV, will sign everything that the hearing person speaks and voice what the deaf individual signs. The deaf and hearing person can converse back and forth, just as if the interpreter was in the same room. When the conversation ends, the interpreter disconnects, and the company is billed for the number of interpreted minutes. To summarize, Sorenson VRI provides another solution for your interpreting needs.
